DV DRUM
DvDrum 2 is a freeware simulator suitable for PC, which allows you
to play a virtual kit using a keyboard set to a customised interface.
The straightforward functionality allows you to make your playing
experience as simple or as complex as your ability dictates.
Users are presented with a plan view of their kit and can adapt the formation and components. There are some additional graphic touches, including being able to adapt the look of the stage around you. The graphics and design are a touch dated, although the presentation of the kit and playing visuals are clear and distinctive.
The sound quality is far superior to MIDI simulators, as the base tracks and drum strokes are recreated using edited original recordings. Users can change the sound of each kit component, in order to fit with a backing track.
An in-built musical database includes a range of songs that can be loaded minus the drum track, allowing you to play original rhythmic composition to popular tracks. Users can also record the graphic and audio from their performance, in order to share online with friends.
The programme runs with Windows XP, Vista and 7, requiring 512Mb Ram memory and a 1Ghz processor. It appears to be highly reliable on installation, with few compatibility issues being reported.
Pro's: freeware; reliable; simple interface with the option to customise; realistic sounds
Con's: dated graphics; not available on Apple or Linux OS
